American royalty will help launch Clive Palmer's ambitious Titanic II project in New York.

The mining magnate, who intends building a replica of the ill-fated ship, says JFK's daughter, Caroline Kennedy, will attend a Titanic II dinner in New York.

The slain US president's sister, Jean Kennedy Smith, and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg are also on the guest list for the black tie gala dinner in December.

The blueprints for the new ship will be unveiled at the event, Mr Palmer told reporters on Wednesday.

He said the menu for the evening would be the same menu as was served on the original Titanic on the night it sank.

The event will be held on board a retired US aircraft carrier.

'It will be a chance for the business community of the United States and indeed the world to see the wonderful progress that's been made on our Titanic II project,' Mr Palmer said.
