A crash involving a truck and a van carrying people to a party has killed 16 people in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila.
Three children, including two baby girls, 10 women and three men died in Saturday's accident, the Coahuila Attorney-General's Office said in a statement.
The accident occurred on the Matamoros-Viesca highway when the truck apparently hit a van carrying people from the town of Petronilas at the Cueva del Tabaco crossing.
Initial reports are that the truck was going the wrong way and hit the van head-on, the AG's office said.
The truck driver, who was alone at the time of the accident, fled the scene, the AG's office said.
The Laguna I bureau of the Coahuila Attorney-General's Office is investigating the accident with the Federal Highway Patrol.
Mexico, according to official figures, registered four million traffic accidents in 2009 that killed 24,000 people and left 750,000 others hospitalised.
